The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that it has received enough petitions to meet the congressionally mandated caps for the fiscal year (FY) 2025 H-1B visa program. This includes the 65,000 regular cap and the 20,000 advanced degree exemption, also known as the master’s cap.
USCIS will notify registrants who were not selected for the FY 2025 H-1B numerical allocations through their online accounts in the coming days. Once the notifications are sent, the status of non-selected registrations will update to:
"Not Selected: Not eligible to file an H-1B cap petition based on this registration."
The agency will continue to accept and process petitions exempt from the cap. These include petitions filed for current H-1B workers who:
- Have been previously counted against the cap and retain their cap number.
- Seek to extend their stay in the United States.
- Wish to change the terms of their employment.
- Plan to change employers.
- Intend to work concurrently in additional H-1B positions.
The H-1B program allows U.S. businesses to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations, helping to meet the demand for skilled labor across various industries.
