If speculations doing rounds in the political circles in Andhra Pradesh are correct, there is likely to be a reconciliation between YSR Congress party president and former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief Y S Sharmila.
Senior YSRCP leader and former MLC Satish Kumar Reddy from Pulivendula stated that there was a strong possibility of the siblings coming together again in the near future. His remarks have triggered widespread debate across political and media circles.
Following her differences with her brother, Sharmila initially launched her own political party in Telangana before later joining the Congress and becoming the APCC president. She contested the 2024 elections but failed to secure a victory.
For a considerable period, Sharmila focused her political attacks on Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSRCP. However, observers note a visible shift in her approach in recent months.
Satish Kumar Reddy said Jagan Mohan Reddy held deep affection for his sister and was not someone who deliberately committed mistakes.
He pointed out that Sharmila, in her current role as APCC chief, has been primarily targeting the ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh rather than attacking Jagan or the YSR Congress Party.
Unlike earlier instances, Sharmila has refrained from making direct allegations against Jagan, which Satish Kumar Reddy described as a positive development.
He said Jagan was a person who valued family relationships deeply and maintained that the possibility of the siblings reuniting could not be ruled out.
Political observers have also noted that Sharmila recently extended birthday wishes to her brother for the first time since their rift.
Jagan, in response, addressed her affectionately, calling her “Thank You amma,” which further fuelled speculation about improving relations between the two.
