The decision of the Telangana cabinet, which met under the leadership of chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday, to give an amount of Rs 500 as bonus on the minimum support price for paddy, but only for “fine variety” has triggered protest from the opposition parties.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K T Rama Rao strongly criticised the Revanth government’s decision to give a bonus of Rs 500 per quintal only to the fine variety of paddy, contrary to the Congress party’s election promise.
He called the decision a “hypocritical Congress brand fraud” and expressed his anger on social media.
“The Congress promised a Rs 500 bonus for all paddy variety crops in their guarantee card, before the elections. Now they say it’s only for fine variety of paddy. This is deceit and hypocrisy,” KTR said, declaring that this is not people’s governance (Praja Palana), but an anti-farmer rule.
Bhartiya Janata Party official spokesperson NV Subhash said that the cheating tactics and techniques of the Congress were exposed once again with the cabinet deciding to extend Rs. 500 bonus only for fine variety paddy instead of all varieties (Doddu rakalu).
Subhash said that the chief minister had promised to extend bonus for paddy without mentioning the variety and now offering to limit it to fine variety and wondered how long the government would cheat farming community.
He said that majority farmers are cultivating Doddu rakalu and hence bonus should be extended to all the farmers.
