What first appeared to be a tragic hit-and-run case in Rajasthan has now turned into a shocking murder conspiracy, eerily similar to Meghalaya’s honeymoon killing.
On a Friday evening, newlyweds Ashish and Anju were out for a walk when a vehicle allegedly hit them. Ashish died on the spot, while Anju claimed she was robbed of her gold jewellery and left unconscious on the road.
However, the case took a dramatic turn during the investigation.
Police have now revealed that Anju allegedly planned her husband’s murder with her boyfriend Sanju and two others, trying to pass it off as a road accident. The case is now being referred to as Rajasthan’s honeymoon murder.
According to Amrita Duhan, Superintendent of Police, Sri Ganganagar, police received information around 9 pm on January 30 about a couple lying unconscious on the road. Both were rushed to a Community Health Centre, where doctors declared Ashish dead.
Initially, Anju told police that an unidentified vehicle had hit them during their walk and that she had been robbed. But investigators soon noticed serious inconsistencies.
The medical report showed clear injury marks on Ashish’s body, including signs of strangulation. Anju, on the other hand, had no visible injuries. This raised suspicion.
Further investigation revealed that Anju had been in frequent contact with Sanju, who lived near her hometown.
Though the couple had married just three months earlier, Anju reportedly returned to her village soon after the wedding, where she reconnected with her former boyfriend. Police say the murder plan was hatched during this period.
On the night of the incident, Anju allegedly took Ashish to a deserted road where Sanju and his accomplices — Rocky (also known as Rohit) and Badal (alias Siddharth) — were hiding.
“They attacked him brutally, strangled him, and then tried to stage the murder as a hit-and-run,” police said.
To support the robbery story, Anju allegedly handed over her phone and earrings to the attackers and pretended to be unconscious after the assault. But her changing statements and forensic evidence exposed the plot.
All four accused have now been arrested, bringing the chilling conspiracy to light.
