Rape and murder: TRS shifts blame on Modi

The rape and murder of a veterinary doctor on the outskirts of Hyderabad in the early hours of Thursday has sent shockwaves across the country and also put the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government headed by K Chandrasekhar Rao in an embarrassing situation.

While KCR reacted three days after the incident and ordered constitution of a fast track court to deal with the case, his son and Information Technology minister K T Rama Rao expressed anguish over recurring of such incidents despite tough policing by the Telangana cops.

With the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, especially Union home minister of state G Kishan Reddy stepping up attack on him for the inaction of the police department, KTR sought to shift the blame on to the Centre for not making necessary changes in the Criminal Procedure Code to deal with such heinous crimes through a series of tweets in the social media.

In a bid to corner the NDA government, KTR sought to know why the Centre had failed to ensure that the convicts in the ghastly rape and murder of Nirbhaya in 2012 were still not hanged. Readmore!

He demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi take initiative in delivering capital punishment to the accused in veterinary doctor rape and murder case amending the Indian Penal Code and Cr PC. He asked the Prime Minister to ensure expeditious justice to the victims and said anyone committing a heinous act of violence on women and children should be given the death penalty without delay.

The minister further asked to take up the issue for a day-long discussion in parliament. "Let us act swiftly to save our nation from these beasts who seem not to fear law of the land @narendramodi Ji, I appeal to you on behalf of millions of citizens who're aggrieved yet feel helpless & want us, lawmakers, to raise up to the occasion & deliver expeditious justice," he tweeted.
