Nimmagadda Ouster: SEC Also Draws A Blank In SC

The YSRCP government’s yet another attempt to obtain stay from the Supreme Court on Andhra Pradesh high court order reinstating retired IAS officer Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar as State Election Commissioner has failed.

The government, which failed get a positive order from the Supreme Court last week, forced the SEC authorities also move the apex court seeking a stay on Nimmagadda’s reinstatement and also approve the ordinance to appoint Justice Kanagaraj.

However, the SC rejected this second petition as well but admitted the petition for hearing. It clubbed the SEC petition with that of the state government and said it would hear both the petitions next week, after asking the respondents to file their counters.

Last week, the SC which refused to grant stay on the high court order, made some serious comments on the issuance of ordinance by the state government to reduce the term of the SEC and appointing a new SEC with retired high court judge rank judicial officer. Readmore!

Asking the state government not to meddle with the constitutional institutions, the bench expressed doubts over the intentions behind the promulgation of ordinance.

So, it will take another week or 10 days to get clarity on Nimmagadda’s reinstatement.
