OTT Watchlist: Well Done Film With Mundane Line

Sometimes the films come as a surprise and become hits with word of mouth publicity. This happens more often on OTT platforms than for the films coming into theatres.

Generally Malayalam films are at their best in scoring the high scores but now a Hindi movie did that feat on Netflix.

The title of the film is "Darlings" and this is all about domestic violence that is ubiquitous but dealt in a very subtle way hooking the attention of the audience.

In fact, these are the days where the audiences are hardly holding patience in watching the routine stuff as they get exposed to world cinema and plethora of ideas; so something mundane would never enthuse them. This has been the opinion of many filmmakers and they are in search of the best ideas that are out of box.

But this film "Darlings" proves them wrong. A mundane line can also be made most appealing by showing the narrative genius. It's all about the screenplay and performances that takes this film from ordinary to something special.

Though the line is domestic violence, this can be watched by all age groups as there is no iota of obscenity anywhere.

Jasmeet K Reen excels in direction and it's really surprising to know that it is her debut. Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma excel with their performances.

Though there are some flip sides to this film, it proves to be an engaging narrative on a whole. The director seems to have  a promising career provided if she does more meticulous work with attention to detail down the line.
