Nag Ashwin’s mythological sci-fi film "Kalki 2898 AD," starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone, has been setting box office benchmarks since its release.
It is already the biggest hit of the year, the highest-grossing foreign film in North America, and has now become the fourth highest-grossing film in India, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan's "Jawan."
The year 2023 belonged to Shah Rukh Khan, with three back-to-back hits: "Pathaan," "Jawan," and "Dunki."
"Jawan" minted Rs 640.25 crore in India, becoming the biggest hit of Hindi cinema and the fourth highest-grossing Indian film after "RRR," "KGF 2," and "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion."
However, the records have now been rewritten, as "Kalki 2898 AD" has finally surpassed "Jawan’s" record by earning over Rs 640.25 crore.
"Kalki" earned Rs 414.85 crore in Week 1, Rs 128.5 crore in Week 2, Rs 56.1 crore in Week 3, Rs 24.4 crore in Week 4, and Rs 12.1 crore in Week 5. In the sixth week, the film began to struggle, earning just Rs 65 lakh on Friday, Rs 1.25 crore on Saturday, and Rs 1.80 crore on Sunday.
Finally, on Monday, the collection dropped to a mere Rs 50 lakh, taking the total collection after 40 days to Rs 640.15 crore, as per Sacnilk.
As per early numbers for Tuesday (Day 41), the film has earned Rs 15 lakh from its morning and early afternoon shows, taking its overall collection to Rs 640.30 crore and surpassing "Jawan’s" record of Rs 640.25 crore, thus becoming the fourth highest-grossing film in Indian cinema.
The film crossed the Rs 1050 crore mark globally a few days ago. To celebrate this milestone, the makers announced a special offer for the film's fans, selling tickets for only Rs 100 from August 2nd to August 9th.
