Chevireddy son gets bail in Pulivarthi case

Senior YSR Congress party leader and former Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy’s son Ch Mohit Reddy got a big reprieve in the case pertaining to the assault on present Telugu Desam Party MLA Pulivarthi Nani in the Sri Venkateshwara University a day after the polling for the assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh on May 13.

The state high court on Tuesday granted conditional anticipatory bail to Mohit Reddy, who had contested the assembly elections against Pulivarthi in Chandragiri, in place of his father Bhaskar Reddy.

The high court asked Mohit Reddy to submit two sureties each worth Rs 20,000, besides appearing before the investigating officer once in 15 days, till the police file the charge sheet in the case.

It may be mentioned that Mohit Reddy had allegedly instigated his followers to attack the vehicle of Pulivarthi, who was going to the SV University to inspect the strongrooms where the EVMs were preserved, pending counting of votes. Readmore!

Pulivarthi sustained injuries and he had to stage a dharna on the road, even as the YSRCP workers were smashing his vehicle. Later, he lodged a complaint with the police, who registered a case against Mohit Reddy.

On July 27, the police took him into custody when he was leaving for Dubai. A day later, he was let off after serving him a notice under Section 41-A of the criminal procedure code.

The high court asked the prosecution how Mohit Reddy could be let off and served notices when the cops booked him for attempt to murder. However, the police said the notices were given for questioning as he was accused No. 37.

The cops, however said, there were evidences to prove that he was very much there on the campus when his followers were attacking Pulivarthi.
