The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been striving to make inroads in the southern states, has primarily focused on Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, and to a lesser extent, Kerala. Surprisingly, it has neglected Andhra Pradesh thus far.
Despite joining the alliance with the Telugu Desam Party and the Jana Sena Party, the BJP has made minimal effort to make a significant impact in Andhra, let alone actively participating in the campaign.
Only selected BJP candidates are conducting independent campaigns in their respective constituencies.
According to party sources, there is a possibility that the BJP leadership will shift its focus to Andhra Pradesh in the next two or three days, coinciding with the commencement of the nomination process.
Union Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Andhra Pradesh to attend the nomination ceremony of state BJP president Daggubati Purandeshwari, signaling the beginning of the BJP's campaign in the state.
The party plans to organize a series of public meetings featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada, Tirupati, and Anantapur, starting from the first week of May.
Simultaneously, Union Minister Amit Shah is expected to address several rallies in the state, while BJP National President J P Nadda is slated to speak at public meetings in Dharmavaram and Jammalamadugu.
"However, there is still some uncertainty regarding certain seats like Anaparthi and Tamballapalli assembly seats and the Narasapuram Lok Sabha seat. Once these are finalized, the party's activity will increase," sources revealed.
However, the lack of criticism from BJP leaders against the YSR Congress party led by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is a matter of concern for the NDA allies.
"Unless the BJP national leaders launch a strong attack on Jagan and his government, the purpose of the alliance will not be fulfilled," a TDP leader expressed.
