Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has been accusing the Road Transport Corporation employees of causing huge losses to the corporation to the extent of Rs 3,000 crore.
However, the RTC unions are pointing out that the losses are primarily due to misuse of RTC funds by the state government; non-refund of the subsidy amount and failure to waive off tax on diesel.
RTC has assets worth over Rs 50,000 crore in different parts of the state. In Hyderabad alone, the assets are worth Rs 25,000 crore.
“Compared to the value of assets, the losses are very meagre and are forced on the RTC. It is wrong to blame the RTC employees for the same,” an RTC union leader said.
The opposition parties have gone a step ahead and alleged that KCR is eyeing these assets of the RTC.
“After privatising the RTC partially, the chief minister is planning to usurp the lands and other buildings of the RTC and give them on development to the private parties, so that he can make big money,” a Congress leader said.
“He is creating a situation wherein his family members and friends can easily take over RTC's valuable properties under the curtains of strike," he alleged.
The Congress leader demanded that the Chief Minister release a White Paper on RTC's factual situation giving details of its assets, liabilities, dues from the government and taxes imposed on the corporation.
