For the last few weeks, there have been reports about senior actress-turned-politician and former Medak MP M Vijayashanti quitting the Congress party and joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.
In fact, her camp has been constantly leaking to the media about her plans – including her likely visit to New Delhi to meet Union home minister Amit Shan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Very recently, there were reports from her camp that she had met BJP national president J P Nadda at a star hotel in Hyderabad and that she would join the BJP in the presence of Amit Shah when he came to the city on Saturday to campaign for the party in the GHMC polls.
Shah came and went back to Delhi, but there was nothing about Vijayashanti joining the BJP. In fact, the party leaders themselves are perplexed as to what she is up to.
“If she wants to stay back in the Congress, she has to make it clear. If she wants to join the BJP, she has to do it without any issues. Who stopped her?” a BJP leader observed.
Apparently, Vijayshanti is planning to take a call after the results of the GHMC elections. But in any case, the Congress is unlikely to perform well in the elections and might not get more than two or three seats. At the same time, there are chances that the BJP will improve its tally.
“What additional mileage she will get by joining the BJP after polls? In fact, it will lead to negative talk for deserting a sinking ship and joining the BJP for better prospects,” an analyst observed.
Such dilly-dallying would only harm the political prospects of Vijayashanti, rather than helping her growth, he said.
