What are YSRC regional coordinators doing?

There are as many as nine regional coordinators for the ruling YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh, whose responsibility is to coordinate with the party presidents in the districts falling under their respective regions, sort out any issues between the party leaders and local public representatives and take up the party activities and programmes.

The coordinators were appointed in April 2022 and party preside and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy reshuffled them again in November 2022.

According to the revised list, Botsa Satyanarayana would be the regional coordinator of Srikakulam, Parvathipuram and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts and Y V Subba Reddy for Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts.

Similarly, Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose and P Midhun Reddy would act as coordinators of Kakinada, East and West Godavari, Konaseema, Eluru districts, while Marri Rajasekhar and Alla Ayodhya Ramireddy as coordinators of Krishna, NTR and Guntur districts. Readmore!

Beeda Mastan Rao and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy would be the coordinators of Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam districts and Balineni Srinivas Reddy would take care of Nellore, Tirupati, and YSR Kadapa districts.

Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy was appointed as coordinator of Annamayya, Chittoor, Anantapur, Sathyasai districts and Akepati Amarnath Reddy as coordinator of Kurnool and Nandyala districts.

In July this year, Balineni resigned from the post of regional coordinator for Nellore, Tirupati and Kadapa districts owing to personal reasons and in his place, Jagan appointed Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy as the regional coordinator for the erstwhile common districts of Nellore, Chittoor, and Kadapa districts.

He was also asked to handle Palnadu, Bapatla and Prakasam districts, in place of Beeda Mastan Rao and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, who were also removed from their roles.

According to party sources, except Sai Reddy, none of the regional coordinators appointed by Jagan are seriously fulfilling their responsibilities.

While they are supposed to visit the districts in their respective regions regularly, hold party meetings and oversee the party programmes, not many of them are taking their jobs seriously.

“Subba Reddy occasionally visits Visakhapatnam, but more than the party activities, he is focussing on his personal interests. There are serious problems in the party in north Andhra, but Subba Reddy hardly pays any attention to them,” a party source said.

Similarly, there are hardly any instances of Amarnath Reddy holding any party meetings in Kurnool and Nandyal districts, though there are many problems in the party that needed to be sorted out.

It has only been a few weeks since Sai Reddy took over as the regional coordinator, but he is regularly touring different parts of the region assigned to him and activating the party cadres.

“Coordinating the party activities at the regional level does not mean making telephonic calls to the local leaders. They have to regularly visit the districts and lead the party programmes. But so far, many of the regional coordinators are not doing their job properly,” sources said.
