Former Congress MP from Rajahmundry Vundavalli Arun Kumar will soon join the YSR Congress party headed by Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, if the reports doing rounds in the political circles and a section of media are to be believed.
According to these reports, Jagan has sent some senior leaders as envoys to Vundavalli seeking his support to the YSRC in the wake of the forthcoming assembly elections in the state.
He also invited Vundavalli into the party, as he felt a senior leader like him having a lot of command over various subjects would bring tremendous mileage to the party.
It is not exactly known whether Vundavalli gave any positive reply to Jagan, but sources close to him said he would take an appropriate decision shortly.
“May be, Vundavalli will join the YSRC provided he gets a concrete assurance on a prominent position in the party and a Lok Sabha seat in the coming elections,” the sources said.
Ever since the combined state of Andhra Pradesh was divided to carve out Telangana, Vundavalli has been staying away from electoral politics.
He did not even contest the last Lok Sabha elections, but has been politically very active.
He has been attacking the Chandrababu Naidu government whenever there is any controversy over any issue including Polavaram project, Pattiseema scheme, irregularities in the construction of Amaravati, sand mafia etc.
At the same time, Vundavalli has been constantly warning Jagan against being complacent and telling him to be wary of the shrewd politics of Naidu.
If Vundvalli really joins the YSRC, it will be a big trouble for Naidu, as being vocal and a powerful orator, he can effectively attack the TDP during the election meetings.
It will be interesting to watch the former MP playing a big role in the opposition party.
