TRS MLA set to lose his assembly membership?

Telangana Rashtra Samithi legislator Chennamaneni Ramesh, who has been escaping being disqualified from his assembly membership for the last 10 years, may not escape from the hands of the law this time.

On Thursday, the Union ministry of home affairs submitted an affidavit in the state high court stating that Ramesh is not an Indian citizen, as he still holds German citizenship and a passport of that country.

In his earlier affidavit filed in December, too, the ministry submitted a memo in the high court stating that Ramesh was holding a German citizenship. But the court asked the ministry to obtain details from Germany that proved the MLA’s German citizenship.

Ramesh, who has been representing Vemulawada assembly constituency in Rajanna Siricilla district for the last three terms, is facing the trial in the court, following a petition filed by his rival Adi Srinivas, a Congress leader, who lost to the TRS in the last three terms. Readmore!

Srinivas has been arguing that Ramesh had obtained the Indian Citizenship by fraudulent means hiding his German citizenship.

In November 2019, the ministry of home affairs cancelled the Indian citizenship of Ramesh on the grounds that he had held citizenship of Germany and had not fulfilled the stipulated norms while obtaining the Indian citizenship in 2009.
