Monday Washout! Box Office Goes Bone Dry

For any film—hit or average—Monday is the real test. If a movie survives Monday, it can be safely called a success in today’s market.

In fact, when nearly 90% of films crash by Monday, even a one-week run is seen as an achievement. So, how did last week’s releases fare?

Funky did not survive even till Monday. The film opened with flop talk on Day 1 and quickly slipped into utter flop territory. On Monday, it failed to make any impact across Andhra Pradesh.

Even in Nizam—especially Hyderabad, where Vishwak Sen is believed to have decent pull—the occupancy was very poor. In three days, the film managed only around ₹5 crore net, and that is likely its final figure. Readmore!

On the other hand, Couple Friendly started with low occupancy from the first day. Being a small film with Santosh Soban as the hero, it did not attract much attention initially.

However, once reviews and word of mouth turned positive, audiences slowly began to notice the film.

On Shivaratri, Couple Friendly saw a good jump in occupancy. Even Monday evening and second shows recorded encouraging footfalls. So far, the film has collected around ₹3 crore, and with the positive talk, it still has some scope to grow.

The third release, Seetha Payanam, directed by Arjun with his daughter in the lead role, turned out to be a flop. On Monday, shows were cancelled in many areas.

Re-releases like Love Story and Manasantha Nuvve were limited to just two or three shows and did not make much noise.

Overall, the box office looks empty once again. There is no strong film in the market right now.

Among the current releases, only Couple Friendly has a little breathing space—if promoted well, it might manage a decent run.
