In a swift development, newly appointed Governor of Telangana Tamilisai Soundararajan rushed to New Delhi on Tuesday, following a call from the Centre.
Tamilisai would be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah one after the other in the evening. This is for the first time that she would be going to Delhi to meet the big bosses, after being appointed as Governor last month.
It is not exactly known why she got a call from Delhi so urgently, but speculations are doing rounds that the Centre has sought a report on the situation in the state in the wake of ongoing strike by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation employees and workers for the last 11 days.
The suicide by two RTC employees due to alleged stubborn attitude of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government headed by K Chandrasekhar Rao was highlighted by the national media and the Centre has apparently taken it very seriously.
The BJP leaders from Telangana had already represented the matter to the Centre through a memorandum and on Monday, the RTC employees’ union leaders met Tamilisai and explained the ground realities.
The Centre is also said to be serious over the reports of the TRS leaders usurping the properties of the RTC in various parts of the state in the name of development.
The reports clearly indicated a deep-rooted conspiracy by the TRS government to privatise the RTC gradually.
“The Centre is gathering information from various sources. Calling for a report from the Governor is part of the exercise. It remains to be seen what action the Centre would take based on these inputs,” a source said.
