Suresh Babu: Small Films Need Theatres To Survive

While a good number of business sectors are eating knockout blows with pandemic waves, the OTTs are boasting their prominence.

As the theatres are shut down due to the pandemic, even the big films are running behind OTTs. Looking at this scenario, it gives an impression that the film industry is depending more on OTTs in the coming days.

Though the directors and the producers become profitable with this changed scenario, the distributors and the exhibitors will be at big loss.

On the other hand, Daggubati Suresh Babu has opened up his voice against OTTs. Surprisingly, he said that for the small films to survive the theatres are necessary.  Readmore!

Suresh Babu is not only a producer but also an exhibitor. So he knows the ins and outs of theatre business. He also holds clarity on what sort of films run better in theatres.

"The theatres will be affected badly with direct OTT releases. Producers also don't  have another option. These days, people are showing interest in watching films on mobiles and tablets at home. But the mood will not be the same all the time. Once the pandemic curve comes down, the audience will be ready to watch films in theatres at least on weekends especially in big cities. I feel, keeping such an audience in mind, the producers should make films with a controlled budget. Otherwise the theatres will be affected badly", he said.

When asked why he is not going in the way of OTT despite knowing all this, he said that Amazon and Netflix are also running in losses and so he is not going that way.

Well, while everyone believes that OTTs are making good money, Suresh Babu says the other way round.
