The surfacing of a video footage on Tuesday morning, showing former State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar meeting former Union minister and BJP MP Y S Chowdary alias Sujana Chowdary and former Andhra Pradesh minister Kamineni Srinivas on June 13 led to heated debate in political kaminecircles in the state.
Hours later, Sujana Chowdary came up with a detailed rebuttal to the allegations being levelled by the YSR Congress party leaders about the purported meeting with Kamineni and Nimmagadda. He denied the media reports that he had a secret meeting with them at Park Hyatt hotel.
Sujana said he had been carrying out official and business activities from Park Hyatt Hotel since the onset of Covid-19 and announcement of lockdown and that he had been meeting people from various walks of life and leaders from different political parties.
“My meetings are not secret and there’s no need of secrecy in any of my activities,” he said.
So, on June 13, Kamineni had also met him at an appointed time to discuss the BJP activities in the state.
“After a brief meeting, he had left the room. Subsequently Ramesh Kumar dropped by to meet me and we spent a little time over a cup of coffee,” he said.
Sujana clarified that their conversation had nothing to do with any official or political roles.
“Our families knew each other for more than one generation. Neither he nor I would broach any topic which is inappropriate for either of us,” he said.
He condemned the attempts of some vested interests in the media and political circles to show, on the basis of CCTV footage acquired by questionable means, that the three had met together.
“These media and political circles are trying to convey to the public that it was an irregular, conspiratorial, and unlawful meeting. They tried to show two different, separate and unconnected events as one meeting,” he alleged.
