Telangana Congress party is planning to go in a systematic way in its campaign in the ensuing assembly elections in the state.
Though the list of candidates is not yet announced, the prospective candidates have already started doing door-to-door campaign in their respective constituencies.
At the same time, the party is organizing public meetings and rath yatras at regular intervals.
Leaders like V Hanumanth Rao, Revanth Reddy, Jana Reddy and Jeevan Reddy have been addressing public meetings and rallies in their districts.
Congress party president Rahul Gandhi has already addressed three public meetings – Bhainsa, Kamareddy and Charminar, for the elections. This is apart from two meetings he had addressed before the dissolution of the assembly at Shamshabad and Serilingampally.
Now, the Congress leaders and cadre eagerly waiting for the public meeting of Rahul’s mother and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
Though initially it was decided to hold her public meeting on October 27, the Telangana Congress leaders want it to be postponed to second week of November, when the intensity of the electioneering picks up.
Apparently, the Congress leaders believe that Sonia will be their trump card in the elections.
“After all, it was because of Sonia, the Telangana state has become a reality. Last time, the party could not take it effectively into the people, because the party’s focus was more on the parliament elections and so, she could not pay much attention to Telangana,” a Congress leader said.
Now, the Congress leadership is trying to prepare a ground to project Sonia as the mother of Telangana.
“She will have ample time to explain why she had to give Telangana, risking the party’s future in Andhra. She will speak about how KCR’s family had misused the power given to the Telangana people and tell them that the very purpose of granting Telangana state was lost. If Sonia can send the message strongly into the people, it will bring tremendous mileage to the Congress in the elections,” the Congress leader said.
