“Funky” has emerged as one of the biggest setbacks in Vishwak Sen’s career.
The film opened to poor box office numbers and saw a steep drop from Monday onward, effectively ending its theatrical run within a few days.
The actor has now shifted his focus to upcoming projects, including Tharun Bhascker’s E2E.
Producer Naga Vamsi, known for securing strong OTT deals with Netflix, is reportedly considering an early digital release for Funky.
In recent times, however, several of his theatrical releases have underperformed, leading to pressure on streaming valuations.
Industry buzz suggests that, in order to maintain a healthy relationship with Netflix for future collaborations, the makers have decided to shorten the film’s theatrical window.
While Telugu films typically arrive on OTT platforms after four weeks, Funky may premiere within two weeks or possibly even sooner.
Directed by K.V. Anudeep and featuring Kayadu Lohar as the female lead, Funky released in theatres on February 13. If reports are accurate, the film could begin streaming before the end of this month.
