Y S Sharmila, who has been interacting with a cross section of people in the last few days as part of her preparations to launch a new regional party in Telangana, has succeeded in striking an emotional chord with the student community.
In her interaction with a section of students and youth at her Lotus Pond residence, Sharmila promised to take up their cause as a “sister” and bring about a change in the society that has neglected the power of youth.
A young man, who claimed to have worked with a private junior college as a lecturer, He explained his woes as a private lecturer who was not paid salaries by the management during the Coronavirus lockdown period.
He triggered emotions in the meeting by saying that though he had lost his father in the form of late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, he was confident that he has a sister in Sharmila, who can take care of the youth.
He said his father had died of heart attack unable to bear the trauma of YSR’s death in 2009.
“When people like my father died due to shock, Jagan anna and Sharmila akka came to our places and called on our families,” he pointed out.
“When hundreds of youths sacrificed their lives for the sake of Telangana, KCR had not consoled even a single family of the martyrs. He is ruling the state, riding on their sacrifices,” the young man decried.
On seeing his emotions, Sharmila called him on to the dais and consoled him by pulling him towards her side, evoking “Johar YSR” slogans from the audiences.
Later, Sharmila said thousands of poor students had got benefitted out of fee reimbursement scheme introduced by YSR and were now in good positions.
“Nobody will forget the great work done by YSR in Telangana region,” she said.
