In a surprising development, Telugu Desam Party on Thursday expressed its thanks to Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y S Sharmila, sister of YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, for celebrating the birthday of Nandamuri Alekhya, wife of late Nandamuri Taraka Ratna, on Wednesday.
“Thank you @realyssharmila garu for being there for Nandamuri Alekhya garu.. feels good to see this,” the TDP tweeted on its handle.
It may be mentioned that Taraka Ratna was an active TDP leader and a follower of party president N Chandrababu Naidu.
He suffered a stroke while taking part in the rally of Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh in January 2023 and died at the hospital later.
Naidu personally attended the last rites of Taraka Ratna and stood by his family all the times. Of course, being a close relative, YSR Congress party general secretary V Vijay Sai Reddy also supported Alekhya’s family.
But on Wednesday, Sharmila went to the residence of Alekhya along with her daughter Anjili Reddy and celebrated her birthday in a grand manner. Alekhya cut the cake brought by Sharmila, who offered her a piece of the cake.
When Alekhya became emotional, Sharmila hugged her and consoled her. Later, Alekhya gave Sharmila and Anjili a treat. The video of the entire event went viral on social media.
Alekhya thanked Sharmila for being with her in the last two years of her turbulent life.
“Her association with our family is still continuing. I am very much delighted for sparing so much time for us and being part of our lives. You are very special to us,” she said.
