Y S Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, has begun to feel the heat of politics even before she launched the regional party in Telangana.
On Wednesday, Sharmila incurred the wrath of Andhra farmers belonging to Andhra Pradesh Parirakshana Samithi, who laid siege to her Lotus Pond office protesting her latest stand on Krishna waters issue.
Tension prevailed at Lotus Pond as the farmers led by samithi leader K Srinivasulu staged the protest against Sharmila’s recent statement that she would fight against the construction of the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project (RLIP) by Andhra government that affects the interests of Telangana.
The farmers raised slogans against her stating that her statement amounts to doing injustice to Rayalaseema.
However, Sharmila’s party activists resisted the agitating farmers and entered into an argument with them. Later, police detained the protesters and shifted them to Banjara Hills police station.
“We will not let go a single drop of Telangana,” Sharmila had tweeted on Monday amid the ongoing row between the two Telugu states over RLIP.
“We will not hesitate to fight against any one,” she said in an obvious reference to Andhra Pradesh’s YSRCP government led by her brother.
The Telangana government has approached the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to prevent Andhra Pradesh from proceeding with the illegal construction of the project and also send a fact-finding committee to the project site.
