Now that the Telugu Desam Party has come to power and he has won the assembly elections on the TDP ticket from Undi constituency, former MP from Narsapuram Kanumuru Raghu Ramakrishna Raju has filed a criminal case against YSR Congress party president and outgoing chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
In a complaint to the Guntur district Superintendent of Police on Monday, Jagan lodged the complaint against Jagan under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code, holding him responsible for the police allegedly torturing him in the police station in the sedition case filed against him three years ago.
In his complaint, Raju alleged that a false case was registered against me by the CID of the Andhra Pradesh government on May 14, 2021.
He said he was arrested without due process, including the absence of a medical examination or adherence to proper legal procedures.
“It is pertinent to note that I had undergone cardiac surgery few weeks before the arrest and was recuperating at home at the time of my arrest. The rule of law required that I be produced before the local magistrate in Hyderabad and undergo a medical examination,” he said.
Raju alleged that instead of producing him in the court, the CID police bullied him, unlawfully physically pulled inside the police vehicle, and forcibly taken to Guntur the same night.
“I was kept in the CID office, Guntur from 9:30 pm onwards without giving me my medicines. As a sitting MP, no permission of the Speaker of Lok Sabha was obtained before my arrest. I had Y Category Police Protection by the Central Government, which was deliberately denied to me,” he alleged.
Raju alleged that he was subject to torture in the police custody before his lawyers approached the high court seeking remedy.
He said even then Guntur general hospital superintendent Dr Prabhavati gave a false certificate that he had no injuries on his body.
The TDP MLA also included former CID chief P V Sunil Kumar, ex-intelligence chief P Seetha Ramanjaneyulu and then additional SP of CID Vijay Paul, besides Dr Prabhavati as respondents in the case.
“Sunil Kumar threatened to kill me, if I continued to criticise Jagan Mohan Reddy,” Raju charged.
