It is known that the BJP high command has always had a soft corner for YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. There has also been political talk that BJP wanted to join hands with YCP earlier, but YCP respectfully denied the idea. As a result, BJP chose TDP.
BJP knows that without the support of a regional party, it is difficult to win the state, so it works through alliances. It is also widely believed that whichever party BJP supports eventually comes to power.
At present, the TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP alliance is ruling the state of Andhra Pradesh. However, till now there has been no legal action in any of the cases against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. This itself shows how soft the BJP high command is towards him.
If Chandrababu Naidu alone were in power, he might have acted strongly against Jagan Mohan Reddy to satisfy himself and his party cadre. BJP is clearly acting as a shock absorber between TDP and YCP which is an open fact. Like it or not, TDP has no option but to continue with BJP for now.
Meanwhile, there is new talk that YCP cadre want Jagan Mohan Reddy to shake hands with BJP leadership as soon as possible. This could be the right time for YCP to convert BJP’s soft corner into a stronger political relationship.
Congress is not reviving and appears to be losing relevance at the national level, while BJP under Narendra Modi’s leadership continues to show dominance.
For regional parties, surviving without BJP’s support is becoming increasingly difficult.
BJP earlier had a troubled relationship with Chandrababu Naidu, but since YCP did not join hands, BJP set aside past issues and aligned with TDP. YCP leadership, on the other hand, has never insulted Narendra Modi.
If Jagan Mohan Reddy expresses interest in joining hands with BJP, political equations in the state could change significantly, say insiders. Time will tell how things unfold.
