Pawan praises Modi, only for Telangana?

After a long time, Jana Sena Party chief and power star Pawan Kalyan shared the dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at L B Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday, as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election campaign in Telangana.

Pawan was also among the very few speakers at the meeting and he was all praise for Modi and the BJP. He said he was extending his support for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Telangana polls.

He said: “I was first inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speeches when the chief minister of Gujarat. That is when I knew he was the man suitable for Prime Minister’s post.”

He said, “India has gained 30 years of progress in 10 years under the leadership of Modi,” and highlighted Modi government achievements like the revocation of Article 370, outlawing triple talaq, passing the Women Reservation Bill, constructing the Ram Mandir, and implementing demonetisation. Extending his support for the BJP, he said, “We want a BC (Backward Class) chief minister, and we lent unconditional support to the BJP.”

So far so good. But Pawan has not made it clear whether he would take this alliance forward even to Andhra Pradesh. If that is the case, one wonders why he has not taken up with the Prime Minister his party’s decision to forge an alliance with the TDP in Andhra.

Pawan knows pretty well that the BJP would not join hands with the TDP under any circumstances and in fact, the central BJP leadership is fully extending its cooperation with the YSR Congress party led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

So, it is very clear that Pawan Kalyan is playing a double game. To put it the other day, the BJP itself is using him for making some electoral gains in Telangana, but it doesn’t subscribe to his plan to fight the Andhra elections along with the TDP.

If Pawan has no clarity, the people won’t believe him in Andhra either. And if the TDP still has any hopes on Pawan, it is destined to face the debacle once again.

The BJP is sure to dump him after the Telangana elections, as it doesn’t want to join the TDP-Jana Sena alliance.
