Amaravathi-Vijayawada: Why Are TDP Supporters Selling Properties?

The real estate in the Amaravathi-Guntur–Vijayawada belt, which was supposed to skyrocket during the TDP’s rule, has now come to a standstill. There is no boom; more than that, a deeply concerning trend is being observed.

Many TDP supporters from this region who had invested heavily here are now selling their properties and moving out. This is largely due to disbelief and a growing lack of trust in the region, which is not witnessing multifold growth despite repeated government claims that world-class investments are on their way.

They have begun to realise that the region is geographically stagnant and not expanding in the way Hyderabad or Bengaluru have over the years.

The expected flow of economic activity, employment generation and large-scale urban growth has not materialised and also not showing any positive signs, which has further weakened investor confidence. Readmore!

Adding to this, TDP supporters themselves are said to be increasingly of the opinion that Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy may return to power, as anti-incumbency is now being openly felt.

YSRCP supporters are keen to back him again with renewed energy. In a democracy, merely being in the opposition often creates the possibility of regaining power at some point, so this political shift is not being seen as entirely unexpected.

Moreover, the recent attacks on Ambati Rambabu’s house and Jogi Ramesh’s house, both of whom hail from this region, have generated strong emotional and political energy among the YSRCP cadre. They are coming out with a fighting spirit and are taking a more defiant stand against the TDP, which is changing the political atmosphere on the ground.

All said and done, the real estate sector in this region is paying a heavy price for these developments.

The fact that even TDP supporters who once invested with high expectations are now selling away their properties and exiting the region is, in itself, a clear indication of the current sentiment and the depth of the slowdown.
