After weeks of uncertainty, Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s “Jana Nayagan” is finally set to hit the big screens later this month.
The breakthrough came after the film’s producers withdrew their petition against the CBFC in the High Court, clearing the way for the movie to be referred to the revision committee and obtain its censor certificate.
According to distribution sources, the production house has already informed Tamil and Telugu distributors to gear up for the theatrical release.
Theatre allotments are expected to be finalized soon, indicating that the release plans are now firmly back on track.
“Jana Nayagan” was initially slated for a January 9 release, but the CBFC reportedly raised objections to several scenes and dialogues, refusing to clear the film.
Vijay, who is preparing to contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections under his TVK party, was unwilling to remove content perceived as politically sensitive.
With the possibility of the Election Commission announcing the poll schedule as early as March, Vijay and the makers appear to have decided against prolonging the legal battle.
The focus has now shifted to ensuring the film reaches theatres before election-related restrictions come into force.
