US Retail Giant Costco Makes Big India Entry in Hyd

In a major boost to India’s tech and business landscape, Costco Wholesale, the huge American wholesale retailer, has made its first official entry into India by choosing Hyderabad as the base for its new Global Capability Centre (GCC).

This marks Costco’s first major investment in the country’s expanding corporate and technology ecosystem.

The Hyderabad centre will not be a regular retail warehouse like Costco stores abroad. Instead, it will function as a technology and research hub, supporting Costco’s global operations in areas such as technology, data analytics, finance, and digital systems.

Initially, the centre is expected to employ about 1,000 people, with plans to scale up in future as the business grows. Readmore!

Costco’s move reflects strong confidence in India’s talent pool and Hyderabad’s reputation as a fast-growing destination for global companies’ innovation and tech centres.

The new facility will work closely with Costco’s teams worldwide, making Hyderabad an important node in the company’s global network.

Industry experts say Costco’s entry will not only create jobs but also deepen Hyderabad’s position as a preferred city for multinational technology and research centres.

This follows a wave of global firms setting up operations in the city, further boosting India’s profile in international business and tech innovation.

No official statement has been made yet on retail stores in India, but this technology hub is the first step in Costco’s long-term India strategy.
