YSRCP betrayed me, says Marri Rajasekhar

Senior leader Marri Rajasekhar, who resigned from both the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and his MLC seat on Wednesday, has announced that he will be joining the Telugu Desam Party unconditionally.

Speaking to reporters in Guntur, Rajasekhar stated that he left YSRCP due to betrayal and a lack of recognition within the party.

"I resigned for the sake of my self-respect. I am switching parties only after stepping down from my MLC post. I will soon be joining the Telugu Desam Party," he declared.

The former MLC, who initially belonged to the Congress Party, joined YSRCP in 2011 and worked for nearly 14 years to strengthen the party in the combined Guntur district.

"In the 2019 elections, I was confident of receiving a ticket, but another candidate was chosen instead," he recalled.

Rajasekhar further alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy had publicly promised to make him an MLC and later a minister if the party came to power.

"Trusting his words, my supporters and I worked tirelessly for the party’s success. However, once in power, Jagan broke his promise and gave the ministerial post to someone else," he said.

He claimed that during every MLC election, he was misled with false assurances of a position.

"Despite working selflessly for the party, I was not given the respect I deserved," he said.

Rajasekhar also criticized the importance given to Vidadala Rajini in the Chilakaluripet constituency, stating that despite her relocation to Guntur in 2024, he was once again ignored without any consultation.

"After the election defeat, responsibilities were handed back to candidates who lost by a margin of 53,000 votes, while dedicated party workers like me were completely sidelined," he said.

With his formal entry into TDP imminent, Rajasekhar’s resignation marks yet another political shift within Andhra Pradesh’s evolving landscape.
