It is still four more years to go for the next assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, but Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu appears to be eagerly trying to appease the people by recalling his hard work done in the past.
On Tuesday, Naidu sought to impress upon the people of the state by recalling his 2,800-km long padayatra done in 2013 aimed at bringing the TDP to power in the 2014 assembly elections.
In a series of tweets, the TDP chief reminded that he had taken the huge risk seven years ago at the age of 63 years by taking up marathon padayatra in the name of “Vasthunna Mee Kosam,” to rejuvenate the party which was away from power for nearly 10 years.
Those days, the Congress was in power in the state and newly-formed YSR Congress party was in full form. The TDP was relegated to the third position in the by-elections then. Under these circumstances, Naidu took up the marathon padayatra, which completed seven years on Tuesday.
Recalling his experiences, Naidu said he had taken up the padayatra to understand the people’s problems and give them a confidence that he was coming to resolve their issues.
“Seven years ago, my padayatra concluded in Visakhapatnam on the same day. I was away from my family members for seven years and walked for 208 days covering 2,817 kilometres in 16 districts at the age of 62 years,” he reminded.
He said he strived hard to fulfil the promises made during the padayatra.
“I had worked for 18 hours a day and dedicated my life to the people. I am thankful to the people, my party workers and leaders who stood by me and gave me enough strength during the padayatra,” Naidu tweeted.
Well, there is still a long way to go, Mr Naidu and don’t exhaust all your ideas. There is no point in recalling the seventh anniversary of your padayatra. It would be better if you do it on its 10th anniversary, which will be closer to the elections!
