Jagan Party Opposes BJP Bill!

In an indication to the widening gap between the Bharatiya Janata Party and YSR Congress party after the initial bonhomie, the latter had strongly opposed The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017, popularly known as 'Triple Talaq Bill' which was passed by both houses of parliament.

YSR Congress party MP and Andhra Pradesh government’s special representative in New Delhi V Vijay Sai Reddy put up a stiff resistance to the bill in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, while the BJP claimed that it was a historic milestone in the country’s secular polity for the first time since independence, as the law protected the rights of Muslim women and enabled them exercise their marital rights.

Sai Reddy said YSRC was totally against the triple talaq bill and listed out six objections to the bill.

“It is not proper to consider triple talaq as a serious offence and it will lead to innocents going to jail,” he said. Readmore!

He sought to know who would pay alimony to the wife, if the husband who divorced her was sent to jail.

The tough stand taken by YSRC has raised many eyebrows, as hitherto, the party has been maintaining a lot of restraint despite provocative statements and allegations being made by the BJP leaders against Jagan Mohan Reddy government.

Apparently, the YSRC has felt that it was time to hit back at the BJP which was making aggressive statements against Jagan government.

The party leadership is understood to have decided not to show any lenience towards the BJP which was trying to capture power in the state by 2024.
