Jagan Government To Impeach Ramesh Kumar?

The YSR Congress party government headed by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is learnt to have taken very seriously the letter purported to have been written by State Election Commissioner Ramesh Kumar to Union home secretary making wild allegations against the chief minister and the YSRC.

Jagan held a meeting with Director General of Police Gautam Sawang and state intelligence chief Manish Kumar Sinha and other advisors to discuss the issue and asked them to look into the possibility of taking action against Ramesh Kumar.

Sources said if it was found that the letter was written by Ramesh Kumar himself, the government might look into the possibility of impeaching him in the assembly and recommend to the Centre for his sacking.

The post of state election commissioner is a Constitutional authority with powers of a high court judge and he cannot be sacked just like that. Readmore!

The assembly has to pass a resolution with two-thirds majority to impeach him and then send the same to the Centre for sacking. On Centre’s recommendation, the Governor has to remove him from the post.

“Since there is no denial from Ramesh Kumar till now, we are forced to believe that the letter was written by him. We shall work out a strategy as to how to get him sacked from the post through legal methods,” state government’s advisor (public affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said.

He alleged that the government would break the conspiracy behind the letter and how it had been mailed to the Union government.

“Though nothing has happened, Ramesh Kumar sought to create an impression that something dangerous was happening in the state. This is nothing but damaging the reputation of the state,” Reddy said.

He said Ramesh Kumar was mentally imbalanced person and was unfit to be in the constitutional post. “He behaved like a TDP activist and does not have the qualities of a human being,” Sajjala said.
