TDP MLAs taking YSRCP help to make money?

One of the main reasons for the defeat of the YSR Congress Party, led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, in the last assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh is said to be the widespread corruption allegedly carried out by YSRCP leaders.

Whether it was in the sale of sand or liquor, there were allegations that YSRCP MLAs made substantial profits, along with land settlements. The government machinery also largely cooperated with YSRCP leaders in these illicit money-making schemes.

After the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by N Chandrababu Naidu, came to power in 2024, he approached the issue cautiously, aiming to prevent rampant corruption and avoid early criticism from the public during his rule.

However, TDP leaders who suffered financial losses during the last five years are eager to recover quickly. Readmore!

Reports suggest that some MLAs have virtually taken control of sand mining operations, selling sand through their associates, making it difficult for ordinary people to access it.

Similarly, there are reports of TDP MLAs attempting to dominate liquor shops, intimidating regular wine shop dealers from applying for licenses.

When these issues came to Naidu’s attention, he issued a stern warning to the MLAs, instructing them to stay away from such illegal activities.

It appears that TDP leaders at the grassroots level are emulating YSRCP leaders in their pursuit of quick wealth.

According to media reports, in some areas, TDP MLAs have even formed alliances with local YSRCP leaders to devise new ways of making large sums of money.

"Since there is no significant change in the administrative structure at the local level, it has become easy for TDP leaders to make money with the help of officials. By gaining the trust of local YSRCP leaders, they ensure their activities go unnoticed by the general public," these reports state.

Although Naidu is aware of many such instances, he feels constrained, as he needs to maintain good relations with his party leaders. However, he fears that in the long run, this unchecked corruption could tarnish the party’s image.
