YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has once again proved that he is a stubborn man and that he will not beat a retreat once he takes any decision.
It was once again proved on Saturday. Brushing aside all objections and warnings from the Centre, the Jagan government went ahead with the issuance of notification calling for fresh tenders for the completion of balance works on Polavaram major irrigation project on Godavari river.
The irrigation department uploaded the tender notification on its tender digest website, calling for tenders worth Rs 4,900 crore for the project head works and hydel power project.
The contract value was decided based on the 2015-16 prices for which the previous contractor Navayuga Engineering Company Limited had bagged the contract during the TDP regime.
The department will follow reverse tendering process, in which the contractor would have to quote the lesser value than this bench mark of Rs 4,900 crore. Whoever quotes the least will get the contract.
Apparently, Jagan decided to ignore the letter written by Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) chief executive officer R K Jain on Friday expressing objections over the termination of the earlier contractor and calling for fresh tenders.
May be Jagan is getting ready to face the consequences from the Centre, or he must be confident of convincing the Centre.
