Jack, Did You Realize Where It Went Wrong?

Not every flop film needs a postmortem, but some certainly do — and Jack is one of them this season. It arrived with huge expectations for a small film, but ended up as an utter flop, contrary to everyone’s predictions.

What the audience expected from Jack was very different. While viewers anticipated a certain style from Siddhu Jonnalagadda, the makers delivered something else. Adding to that, Siddhu straying away from his trademark mannerisms and humor didn’t sit well with the audience.

In today’s times, for a film to create hype even before its release, it needs at least one hit song, a catchy hook step, or something that goes viral on social media. Jack had none of that. In fact, Siddhu himself admitted before release that the music didn’t click — an early sign of what was to come.

Moreover, it seemed like there was no creative alignment between the hero and the director on how to approach the film. Some parts were too serious, others felt overly silly. Apart from Siddhu, the film lacked any additional pull factor, which worked against it.

Siddhu may feel it’s his film and his call — he might even take over the project completely, sidelining the director if needed. But in the end, he must ask: will the film connect with the audience?

Perhaps, by then, it was already too late. The result is now evident in theatres. By the end of its first weekend, Jack was removed from many screens.
