Infosys Co-founder Senapathy 'Kris' Gopalakrishnan, who has previously served as the IT giant's Chairman, CEO, and MD, is approximately â¹1,900 crore wealthier than the company's Founder NR Narayana Murthy.
Gopalakrishnan's net worth is â¹38,500 crore, placing him 62nd on the 2024 Hurun India Rich List. In comparison, Narayana and Sudha Murty secured fifth place on the list of Bengaluru's wealthiest families, with a net worth of â¹36,600 crore.
Gopalakrishnan held the position of CEO and Managing Director of Infosys from 2007 to 2011 and later served as Vice Chairman from 2011 to 2014, retiring that same year. Since his retirement, he has invested in several startups, including Ki Mobility, a provider of automobile services, through his business incubator Axilor Ventures and various venture funds.
Currently, at 69, Gopalakrishnan is the Chairman of Axilor Ventures, a startup accelerator that has backed companies such as GoodHome, Kaagaz, and EnKash.
Gopalakrishnan holds a master's degree in physics and computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. In January 2011, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian honor.
He has also funded the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Research Center at IIT Madras, named after his wife. Additionally, Gopalakrishnan serves on the Board of Governors of IIT Madras and IIM Bangalore. He is the Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIIT Bangalore and a trustee of the Chennai Mathematical Institute.
Infosys, co-founded in July 1981 in Pune but now headquartered in Bengaluru, was established by seven engineers, including Narayana Murthy, Nandan Nilekani, Kris Gopalakrishnan, SD Shibulal, K Dinesh, NS Raghavan, and Ashok Arora.
