Both movies got average reviews. The scores fall between 2.75 and 3. Both movies belong to different genres.
While "Thunivu" is a thriller about a bank heist, "Varisu" is geared toward family audiences.
Here is a summary of the initial reviews.
VARISU: “Varisu” a family drama with all the necessary ingredients. The majority of it is based on emotional factors.
"While the first half is ordinary, the second half is filled with exciting theatre moments that make it worthwhile to see on a big screen,” a reviewer said. The critics declared that it was Vijay’s show all the way.
Reviewers noted that although director Vamshi Paidipally went with a standard plot, Thaman's music and Vijay's swag were what really stood out.
THUNIVU: Unreservedly a thriller. It's a drama about a bank heist. a movie made specifically for Ajith. It has a racy screenplay and is intended for Ajith's fans.
“The story is weak, but the action episodes are fantastic. A good movie for action fans,” a reviewer noted.
The action enthusiasts and fans were Ajith and director H Vinoth's target audience. It seems they made a safe film.
