Has Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu taken a risk by attending the popular talk show ““Unstoppable with NBK” of his brother-in-law Nandamuri Balakrishna on “Aha” OTT platform?
In the first episode of season-2 of the talk show, which is streaming now, Naidu spoke in detail about the 1995 August coup against his father-in-law and Balakrishna’s father N T Rama Rao.
Apparently, the script for the show was prepared and explained to Naidu well in advance by director B V S Ravi along with Balakrishna. The episode was shot only after taking the approval from the TDP chief and making changes as per the latter’s suggestions.
Naidu has chosen to speak out on what exactly had happened during the August 1995 crisis and why he had to take the hard decision of pulling down NTR from power, risking the possibility of being branded as a “back-stabber.”
He said "I prostrated before him and tried to convince him,” which was obviously made in reference to the Lakshmi Parvathi episode. And Naidu sought to rope even Balakrishna into the issue by asking him: “You were there at that time? Did we make any mistake?”
To this Balakrishna also confirmed 'on the behalf of all Telugu people' that what they did was correct. How can he confirm it on the behalf of all Telugus is a big question now.
Naidu has chosen to recall the entire episode and justify the stand taken by him at that time. Maybe, he has realised that it is time for him to give an explanation to the people and a clean chit to himself, to counter the opposition’s criticism.
“He has definitely taken a risk by choosing to talk about it in public. If the people believe him, they may vote for his party again. If they don’t, he will have to pay the penalty. Since the younger generation does not know much about Naidu and the August 1995 crisis, he may have thought he can win over them,” sources said.
