Even as Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy is trying to project himself as a super boss of the party in the state, the high command has virtually shown him his place by encouraging his bitter critics within the party.
All these days Revanth Reddy has been claiming to be the front runner for the chief minister post, if the Congress party comes to power.
He has been impressing upon the the high command that the party’s winning prospects improved only after he took over as the PCC chief.
In a bid to snub Revanth and curtail his powers, the Congress high command has started giving good positions to his rivals in the party, the latest being former PCC chief and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy.
The high command inducted Uttam Kumar Reddy into the AICC election committee, which finalises contestants.
For Revanth, who is planning to deny ticket to Uttam’s wife Padmavathi Reddy from Huzurnagar constituency on the pretext of one family-one post rule, it is a big setback.
Uttam has been a bitter critic of Revanth, who he alleged, has been planting stories in the media that he is joining the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
Uttam has always been targetting Revanth accusing him of splitting the party and that he was disrespecting seniors.
That is why the Congress high command has decided to elevate him to the Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress, which selects all party MLA and MP candidates throughout the country.
Earlier, former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha and former MLA N Vamshi Chand Reddy were appointed to the Congress Working Committee (CWC), albeit in the roles of a permanent invitee and an invitee, respectively.
Obviously, the high command is unhappy with Revanth for not taking the seniors into confidence. Hence, the snub.
Now that the Congress high command has promoted senior Telangana leaders at the national level, there is a chance that group politics could play a major role in Telangana.
