The failure boxoffice performance of Saaho has put a question mark on the next big Telugu release Sye Raa Narsimha Reddy.
Like Saaho, this ambitious bio-pic of a freedom fighter has also been dubbed into Hindi , Tamil and Malayalam and it hopes to capture a pan-India market.
But the mixed reactions to Saaho now raises the question of the tenability of South Indian films when given an all-India release.
Says a source, “Just because Baahubali and KGF did well it doesn’t mean other films in the South Indian languages made on a lavish scale would also do equally well. Saaho is proof that a pan-India market is not open to all high-budget films from the South.”
The Hindi rights of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy are bought by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Films.
Would the film do as well as the Hindi version of the Kannada blockbuster KGF?
