Viswant Duddumpudi is the actor who made his presence felt with the films like Keritha, Manamanta and O Pitta Katha.
He came up with this Boyfriend For Hire and let us analyse the merits and demerits.
Story:
A young man (Viswant) has been brainwashed by his divorced paternal uncle (Harshavadhan) since childhood with regard to the relationship with girls. He says that life cannot be happy when the girls enter into a man's life. Getting influenced by his uncle, he keeps girls at bay for quite a long time.
But eventually he wants to marry someone who possesses five qualities- Self respect, Ambitious, Clarity, Down to earth and Courage. In the process of hunting for the girl with these qualities he takes up a job called 'Boyfriend for Hire'.
What's this job and how does it help him? Did he find the girl he wanted? This forms the rest of the story.
Artistes’ Performances:
Viswant shows his ease in his performance. Though nothing special comes out from him, he does justice for the character with the right body language and reasonable performance. .
Malavika Satheesan as the female lead has many limitations. She looked okay in some scenes but suddenly appeared bulky in a few. Performance wise she is fine but she needs to put in an extra effort to match with the basic requirements of a heroine in a commercial film.
Harshavardhan and Sivannarayana are fine in their characters with their style of subtle and hilarious dialogue delivery.
Madhunandan in the first half has little to do while Sudarshan in the second half attempts some comedy in a guest role.
Pooja Ramachandran appears in the beginning of the film and she has nothing to do with the main story.
Technical Excellence:
Music in this type of film should be captivating. But unfortunately it is very bad. Both the songs and the background score have nothing to appreciate.
Cinematography is adequate and the editing is crisp for this small story which beats around the bush both in the first and second halves.
Highlights:
Interval block
Drawback:
Weak story
Cliched narration
Unconvincing point
Music and Direction
Analysis:
“Boyfriend For Hire'' begins in cliched style. After a series of scenes that appear like those already seen in many films, the heroine makes her entry at the 23rd minute. The concept of 'Boyfriend For Hire' itself looks unconvincing. It is abhoring to see in the first half that all the girls including the heroine have no goal other than hiring the hero.
Everything goes flat and insipid until the interval twist that makes the audience intriguing and raises some expectations on the second half. But the second half goes more flat with stretched emotional sequences and the outdated flow of scenes.
Though Sudarshan tried to bring some laughs in the second half with his ring comedy, that didn't help the film anyway. The films targeted to the young audience need a concoction of comedy and more hilarious thrill moments. None of these elements are worked but the total focus is kept on the main story line which is very thin. The moments that are required in a rom com are totally missing.
Though the lead artistes are not much registered faces, there is reasonable padding with known character artistes. But the problem dwells in the writing of the film itself. The title 'Boyfriend For Hire' hints at something like an escort service. But giving a positive color to this to justify heroism is contrived.
Keeping the hero's hunt for the heroine with five qualities aside, the audience doesn't find the required qualities in this film to like, coming all the way to the theatre.
The plot point can be out of the box when the narrative style follows some novelty. The maneuvering of 24 crafts accordingly proves the mettle of the director. Pitching the film as a routine rom-com and bringing in the concept of Boyfriend For Hire and then taking it into a sentimental angle in the second half is something like mixing salt and spice in the sweet.
On the whole, “Boyfriend For Hire'' offers nothing new and it is like any other routine outdated narrative.
Bottom line: Attempt With Little Substance
