BJP seeks Pawan support in T’gana; what about TDP?

It was only a few days ago that Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan announced the list of party candidates for about 32 seats in the upcoming assembly elections in Telangana scheduled to be held on November 30.

The list was declared despite the fact that Pawan Kalyan openly announced his alliance with the Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, while continuing his existing alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Both the TDP and Jana Sena have appointed their respective coordinating committees to hold negotiations and finalise a joint campaign strategy for the coming elections in AP.

But in Telangana, the Jana Sena Party has not made its stand clear on the alliance with the TDP or the BJP, which are also getting ready with their own lists of candidates to be announced shortly. Readmore!

Against this backdrop, the Telangana BJP on Wednesday sought the support of the Jana Sena Party for the assembly elections in the state.

A delegation led by the Union Tourism Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy and BJP OBC Morcha national president K Laxman met Pawan Kalyan at his residence in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The move triggered speculations that there might be an alliance between the two parties and that they might contest the elections jointly. “We shall discuss the issue within the party and come out with a stand within three days,” Pawan Kalyan said in a statement.

With the BJP leaders meeting Pawan Kalyan, the party is contradicting its earlier stance when it claimed that it would be contesting without any alliance in Telangana.

Reportedly, Kishan Reddy, Laxman, and Pawan Kalyan held discussions for over an hour on the Assembly segments to be contested during the elections. The outcome of the meeting would be made public only after the meeting of Kishan Reddy with the BJP central leadership.

Now, if both the parties agree for an alliance, what is going to be the fate of the TDP? Will it also join the alliance or keep away from the contest? The answers to these questions will be known in the next few days.
