The attack on YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy at Visakhapatnam airport two days ago was a big news in the local media, but the national media did not pay much attention to it because of other important national developments like crisis in the CBI, though they covered the news but not in a big way.
But, on Saturday, it has gained the attention of the prominence of a national issue, thanks to Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
He went to New Delhi and gave an elaborate explanation to the national media at the Constitution Club on how the attack on Jagan took place and how the opposition parties were trying to throw the blame on him and his party.
Naidu also alleged that his government was wrongfully targeted after an attack on political rival Jagan Reddy.
Till then, most of the national media reporters were not aware of the magnitude of the issue. They wondered why Naidu had come all the way to Delhi to present his version.
“Definitely, it must be the assassination attempt and Naidu is worried that he would land in trouble, if the Centre orders any serious investigation,” a national media reporter said.
Interestingly, Naidu also explained to his third front allies as to how the Bharatiya Janata Party was trying to create troubles in Andhra Pradesh taking advantage of the attack on Jagan.
He met Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, Aam Admi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and Loktantrik Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav to rally the support of other opposition parties against what he calls the centre’s “conspiracy” to destabilise his government.
In a way, he sought to pre-empt the efforts of YSRC leaders to lodge a complaint with President, Vice President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top leaders of Delhi in a day or two.
