TDP leaders often claim that women's safety is a top priority for their government. They show evidence by appointing a Dalit woman as Home Minister. However, the actions of the government ultimately determine its credibility with the people.
Recently TDP leader Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy faced criticism for making a sexist remark on former minister RK Roja by mocking her attire. He shared her photo with a sarcastic comment, labeling her as "akka! super".
The photo is from RK Roja's trip to Italy with her family, during which Anam made disparaging remarks about her dress.
Criticism of Roja's politics is acceptable, but it is inappropriate for a government representative to comment on a woman's personal dress. Women's participation in politics is already limited, though it has been increasing.
Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy has previously criticized Roja personally when they were in opposition, which was more acceptable then. Now that TDP is in power, maintaining decorum is crucial for the party's reputation.
It is true that the top brass of TDP and Janasena are maintaining this decorum but the leaders like Anam are putting it down. Home Minister Anitha Vangalapudi should instruct her party leaders to respect women.
