Ambati gets bail in abusing case, but still in jail

Senior YSR Congress Party leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu received a big relief on Monday in cases related to alleged inappropriate remarks against Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, even as he faces continued legal proceedings in another case.

Rambabu, who is currently lodged as a remand prisoner in Rajahmundry Central Jail, had filed a bail petition in the Guntur court in connection with a case registered over alleged objectionable comments against the chief minister.

The high court earlier granted him relief in 35 cases filed against him, and on Monday the Guntur court also granted bail in the remaining cases.

The case relating to the alleged remarks against Chandrababu Naidu was registered by the Nallapadu police in Guntur. Readmore!

Rambabu was arrested overnight on January 31 in connection with the case and produced before a court the following morning, after which he was remanded to Rajahmundry Central Jail, where he has remained since.

Meanwhile, police had filed a petition in the Guntur court seeking custody of Rambabu for further investigation. In response, Rambabu filed a bail petition.

After hearing both petitions, the Guntur court granted him bail in the case, providing major relief to the YSRCP leader.

However, Rambabu’s legal troubles are not over. In a separate case linked to a YSRCP protest against the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in medical colleges, the Pattabhipuram police had earlier registered a case against him, alleging misbehaviour with police personnel during the agitation.

Police brought Rambabu from Rajahmundry to Guntur on a PT warrant and produced him before a special judicial court.

After hearing the matter, the judge remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days in that case, ensuring that he will continue to remain in custody despite securing bail in the remarks-related case.
