Will There Be Praja Kootami In AP, Too?

It is just another four days to go to know the fate of Praja Kootami or Maha Kootami in the Telangana assembly elections.

If the alliance of four opposition parties – Congress, TDP, CPI and Telangana Jana Sena – succeeds in coming to power, it will open the doors for a larger alliance at the national level.

What about Andhra Pradesh, which is also going to polls to its assembly in April/May 2019.

If Maha Kootami wins in Telangana, the TDP and the Congress are expected to join hands in Andhra Pradesh as well, though TDP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu refused to commit on the same for the time being. Readmore!

Reason is simple: if TDP and Congress go separately, they have to attack each other in AP, while they have to come together at the national level. This will cause a lot of confusion in the voters.

So, there should be an alliance between the two, but the TDP will play a big brother role, as the Congress had played in Telangana.

The CPI also will have to join the Cong-TDP alliance as well, as it had done in Telangana. At the national level, too, Naidu is trying to bring the CPI into the grand alliance. And CPI national secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy praised Naidu and supported his efforts.

Interestingly, the CPI in Andhra Pradesh is now sailing with the Jana Sena Party of Pawan Kalyan. CPI Andhra secretary K Ramakrishna issues press statements attacking Naidu almost every day.

But, if there is a grand alliance at the national level, he has no option but to join the TDP-Congress alliance.

There is no party of Kodandaram in Andhra Pradesh, but it remains to be seen which other party would join the Naidu-Congress alliance.

Interesting part of the whole exercise is that while Praja Kootami in Telangana is fighting against ruling TRS, it will be fighting against opposition parties of YSR Congress party and Jana Sena in Andhra Pradesh!
