Actor-turned-politician and former MP M Vijayashanti, who was entrusted with the responsibility of leading the party campaign in the Congress before the 2018 assembly elections in Telangana, is likely to play the same role in the Bharatiya Janata Party as well.
It may be recalled that Vijayashanti had quit the Congress party and joined the BJP in the second week of December, soon after the BJP put up a tremendous show in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.
When she was in the Congress, Vijayashanti hardly came to Gandhi Bhavan, let alone taking part in the party’s deliberations.
She used to complain that she had never been invited for the party meetings nor was she taken into confidence in taking crucial decisions.
She was not even invited for party campaign in the GHMC polls. Most of the time, she confined herself to making comments on social media attacking the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government and the party.
But after joining the BJP, Vijayashanti has become very active and has been regularly visiting the BJP headquarters – Shyam Prasad Mukherjee Bhavan at Nampally, to take part in the party meetings and address press conferences.
According to reports from the BJP sources, the party is planning to entrust her with the responsibility of leading the party campaign in all the coming elections.
The party is planning to conduct bus yatras across the length and breadth of Telangana and Vijayashanti is likely to be given the task of touring the state in the bus.
“She will be there in every district tour and lead the bus yatra in almost all the 33 districts. How to go about with the bus yatra is now being finalised,” a party source said.
