Newly-appointed Andhra Pradesh BJP chief Somu Veerraju on Thursday met megastar and former Rajya Sabha MP Chiranjeevi at his residence.
Chiranjeevi, who is the elder brother of JanaSena chief and actor Pawan Kalyan, congratulated Somu Veerraju for his appointment as the state BJP chief.
According to sources, both discussed the political situation of Andhra Pradesh.
It is also learnt that the Chiranjeevi, whose party Praja Rajyam had once joined hands with the Congress in 2011, wished for a BJP-JanaSena alliance and that the two jointly form the government in 2024.
The meeting has created a buzz among political circle as the BJP is struggling to establish itself as a strong Opposition in the state at a time when main Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is not able to counter the ruling YSR Congress.
The politically-strong Kapu community in Andhra Pradesh is an important vote bank and Chiranjeevi-Pawan Kalyana are hailed as their hero. While JanaSena is part of NDA, Chiranjeevi's entry into the picture is set to improve BJP's chance in the state, a political expert said.
Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi had launched his party Praja Rajyam (PRP) in 2008 and won 18 seats in the 2009 election. He became an MLA but in 2011 PRP merged itself with Congress. He later became a Rajya Sabha MP and minister in UPA also.
After the bifurcation of the state, Chiranjeevi completely isolated himself from politics, but, his latest meeting with BJP state unit chief has fanned a new wave of speculation of his re-entry into active politics.
